Experiment Summary
For complete details of the ACED evaluation, see the Evaluation page. A few high points here.
The ACED evaluation consisted of a randomized trial, where 268 students were randomized into four groups:
- Elaborated feedback, Adaptive sequence (n=71)%0a
- Simple (Accuracy Only) feedback, Adaptive sequence (n-75)
- Elaborated feedback, Linear sequence (n=67)
- Control: Did not use ACED (n=55).
Note: there are no ACED item or summary outcome data available for the control students, just pretest and posttest data.
The students were tracked into six different mathematics tracks:
- Honors (n=38)
- Academic (n=165)
- Regular (n=27)
- Special Education, Part 1 (students who are mainstreamed; n=30)
- Special Education, Part 2 (students who are sheltered; n=8)
- English Language Learners (ELL; n=22)
Note that the ELL teachers did not exactly follow the protocol. They were supposed to be giving only assistance with English, but they also provided some mathematics help.
The Data
The data are available in two CSV files, one for the observed outcomes and one for the pre-test and post-test data A complete Data Dictionary is available.
See Data Files for other ways of getting the data.
